Standard issue handguns are usually 9mm parabellum (9mm luger, 9mmx19). A 9mm handgun will be defeated by almost any armored vest.

Most police use 9mm. What calibre is the Glock?

It depends on the department, some departments allow a cop to choose their own weapon, some departments require a certain caliber or model, and some also just flat out hand you what you're going to carry. You can bet that just about all cops are carrying at least a 9mm sidearm, with a growing group carrying .40 S&W, a few diehards carrying .45 ACP, and a minority carrying .357 Sig. As for the question about whether a round can penetrate a vest, I'm not going to explain online what can and can't. I'll just say that all vests (they're each rated for different calibers, velocities, etc) have a certain threshold of what they can handle before they're compromised. It has to do with surface area of the bullet, type of bullet, and the velocity that it hits at.

It depends on which kind of gun a cop feels comfortable with and what the department goes with. A lot of departments ask that the officers go along the lines of which brand of guns they prefer. Which can be either Berettas, Glocks, or which brand they prefer. But for undercover officers, I believe that they also carry a back-up gun that is concealed and it is dependent on what they like. I can't give you an answer for the glock 19.

Well some cops like the English bobby don't carry guns and most bullets can go through a vest if they are coated with Teflon.

stupid typical question, the caliber is what is question you fool. not the make and model. A question, why do azzwipes like yourself shoot the way you do instead the rite way which is way more effective.

the G19 is just a smaller model of the G17, it is still a 9mm, it will not go through the vest, if you are thinking about shooting a cop you might as well just out the barrel against your own head.

Not too many coppers carrying 9mm these days. Especially since the L.A. gun battle. Most departments, mine included, issue a Glock .40 cal. Not my gun of choice, but Im not the chief. The FBI is now carrying the Sig Sauer P229 .357 sig. Nice gun. 9mm through a vest? Depends on the vest and depends on the bullet.

police use standared loads normally in either 9 mm or 40 cal and many police carry a 38 or a 32 as a back up weapon. Standard load 9 mm or 40 cal will not go though a functioning protective vest ( remember there are level of vests, not all are the same) But there are higher loads and various types of tips that can be used on 9 mm. There were some make that used to be called "cop killers" that could go though vests. I carry in my personal 9 mm I carry a special load that we do that most likely will go though any vest. Not that I would use it against officers, but today many bad guys are using vests and other protective gear.

Cop guns depend on individual department policy which is influenced by a number of factors. Still, a lot of departments are adopting .40 cal automatics these days. A Glock 19, being a large blunt heavy object, will not penetrate a protective vest though, if propelled with enough force, it could cause a great deal of blunt force trauma. A standard BULLET FROM a Glock 19, being 9MM, would also have a great deal of difficulty penetrating a standard protective vest. There may be some special types of ammunition (usually with very restricted access) which could penetrate a vest even at 9 MM caliber.
