| | By Yahoo Answers | | 2008-02-12 23:03:29 | | I want to know if the glock 20 gun can take Glock 22 magazines. If you can't find 10MM ammo can you use 40S&W ammo in the Glock 20? I heard 10MM and 40S&W are the same bullet size.
Have you ever used 40S&W in a 10MM gun? | | Answered By: H | |
| | You have several questions here. Fortunately I am the #1 fan of the Glock Model 20 10mm:
First: No, the Glock Model 20 & Glock Model 22 magazines are NOT interchangeable. The Model 20 is a slightly larger frame size than the Model 22.
Can you use .40 S&W ammo in the Glock Model 20? Yes & no. You can (not recommended) drop a single .40 into the chamber & fire it but it will not chamber the .40 without a barrel change. You can purchase extra barrels for your Model 20 in .357 Sig or .40 S&W and use this ammo with your Model 20 magazines. Works better with the Sig caliber due to the bottleneck design.
Last: Yes, 10mm & .40 S&W are the same bullet diameter but diffenent length sizes. Lastly, the .40 S&W is NOT a shortened 10mm. The 10mm uses a large pistol primer and the .40 uses a small pistol primer. Same thing with the .357 Sig, it uses a small pistol primer.

I see you've added another question: NO, I've never fired a .40 out of 10mm but will probably buy the replacement barrel in .357 Sig. With the 10mm I really don't see any need for the .40 S&W caliber.

As for firing it if it did feed well then firing it couldn't be good on your ten. The bullet and cartridge generally is positioned properly in respect to the barrel rifling and other parts of the gun by the lips of the cartridge case being pressed up against a shoulder in the chamber. The .40 will chamber back about 1/8 inch back from the proper point. Firing will push the round rearward so hard and fast that the firing pin won't have time to retract and will poke right through the primer, slamming the case rearward and into the extractor. The case don't cause too much damage to the extractor though, because at this point the heat from .40's own gasses escaping around it will cause the cartridge to start melting!
Although this as not as bad as I first thought, I thought you were wanting to try .10mm out of a .40. This is not nearly as catastrophic, but it will probably ruin your barrel at the breech. | | | | User: R. L. | | Glock 20 may take Glock 21 magazines but I do not recommend it with 10mm ammo. I'm not entirely sure about using Glock 22 mags.
You can use Glock 17 magazines in a Glock 22 and 35 while using 9mm ammo and a 9mm conversion barrel.
Don't ever use 40S&W ammo in your 10mm gun unless you're using a conversion barrel. There's a lot that goes into ammunition than just the diameter of the bullet. The 40S&W is shorter making a difference in powder charge, the 40S&W and 10mm.are known for high chamber pressures and I do not know which one produces greater pressure.
Lone Wolf makes conversion barrels for the Glock 20 to 357Sig, 40S&W, 9x25mm (9 major). I'm not sure what magazines you're supposed to use with the conversion barrel. Other barrel manufacturers also makes conversion barrels. Lone Wolf goes for $115.
Be mindful that the extractors are different for each model. If you're going to convert your 10mm Glock 20 to shoot 40S&W with a conversion barrel, you may have a few failure to extracts (FTE). | | | | User: H | | You have several questions here.
