by Yahoo Answers: | → | →Looking for firearm advice - PHX AZ? | | 2007-05-03 12:05:15 | | Didn't know where else to post this where I could find people with knowledge on the subject. I am looking to purchase a Glock 22. Used is ok for now so long as it is in good condition. Does anyone know of any vendors in the PHX area that are credible and have quality used firearms, or online sites that are of good standing?
lol ok yeah i have already started online and in the phone book and I have an Idea of who is out there. more specifically I am looking for people who may have purchased from certain dealers or sites, and have a good or bad opinion about the dealer of the quality of the product. | | Answered By: EGOman

| → | →In the LAPD...? | | 2008-01-24 18:18:00 | | I know they have switched to the Glock 22, but is an officer allowed to carry the Beretta 92-F if the officer buys one? It was issue starting around 1990, up until about 2005.
Also, can you still carry the Streamlight SL-20? I know they issue a Pelican tactical light, but can you go out and buy an SL-20 for duty? | | Answered By: MisterShipWreck

| → | →Are most officers allowed to carry their own firearm or are they required to carry the standard issue? | | 2008-01-24 06:18:13 | | my friend just got out of the academy a few months back and is now an officer and im thinking of doing the same thing. we took his glock model 22 (his issue weapon) the other day and shot a couple mags out of it. ive been shooting rifles as long as i can remember but havent shot many pistols. i hit a 1 quart oil jug about 4-5 times out of a 15 round clip at 20 yards are so. i know im not that bad of a shot and if i were to go into law enforcement i would want to use a more accurate gun. another friend has a beretta 96g elite ii, very accurate and good looking gun. i plan on purchasing one just like it but if im going to go into law enforcement i dont want to spend that kind of money and not be able to carry it. | | Answered By: NYPD.Hwy. | | Again, this is a department to department policy issue. In the NYPD you were authorized only to carry the "Approved" firearm on duty, and "Approved" off duty weapon. The CPL of NYS tells us we can carry anything we want - so there is no criminal charge against us if we carry outside department policy; there is however a department charge.
Liability is a factor as well. If I carry an "unauthorized" firearm off duty and use it lawfully, I will be sued civilly and will feel the repercussions from the department.
On duty, you use what you train with - when I first came on I used a .38, and we had to purchase them as well. Even in the NYPD we pay for about everything including the pin that holds our shield on our uniforms.
In the end it was found in a significant amount of "Authorized" firearms, they were "Authorized" or became "Authorized" due to some Chiefs decision - because he "liked" a manufacturer more than another - if you get my drift.
But it is a department policy, not a general policy.
| → | →Good sidearm for security work? | | 2006-10-05 13:59:36 | | Hello!
I'm considering taking a job as an armed security guard to scrape together enough cash to go back to school. I'm familiar with firearms, the different actions, and calibers. However, I wanted some more imput from everyone out there. What would you choose as your preferred sidearm as a security guard? I've ruled out the .50AE Desert Eagle due to weight and over-penetration issues so don't go there. Here is what I have given serious consideration to:
Ruger GP 101 .357 Magnum
Berestta 92f (9mm) OR 96f (.40 S&W)
Glock 17 (9mm) or 22 (.40 S&W)
some 1911-style
I thought of the wheel gun because of it's reliability and simplicity of usage, though I've shot all of the other guns mentioned here.
I'm somewhat concerned with the 9mm round though. Do you think that this is still an effective man-stopper, or should I concentrate on a .40 S&W on up? Any other suggestions welcomed. Later!
Also, does anybody have any experince good or bad with the Ruger P-series pistols? I have a 10/22 and have fired the GP-100 revolvers and loved them both. | | Answered By: jarrgen
| | Being prior USAF Security Police (Forces), I carried the Beretta 92 for 12yrs and never had any issues. For an off duty weapon, I later carried a Beretta Cougar, which had no recoil but operated exactly the same as my 92, and so I wouldn't have to worry about muscle memory.
Now, though, I carry a Springfield XD40, which is essentially the same as the Glock (40) you mentioned, with the added grip safety of a 1911.
The problem here is buying a holster initially. Not a lot of holsters have been made for the XD line. I have a Safariland 6280 for leather duty gear, which is solid, but if you look for a less expensive holster, good luck. This one ran around $120. Or, if you have nylon gear, look for a Bianchi 7001, I think, which should fit.
Also, SE-FU, it is called a magazine, not a clip.
| → | →What would be a perfect gun for a 12-year old? A really cool gun.? | | 2008-02-17 08:21:16 | | Don't worry. This twelve year old is fictional. This is for a story. The 12-yr old is an assassin/bounty hunter/vigilante train to stalk criminals and kill them for profit (Jail, never works). She's been train to do this since age four. She was raised in solitude, a bit socially challenged.
Her first firearm was a Glock-19, which she stole from a cop. Which her teacher said was pretty useless, there are lots more powerful guns than that.
I chose the the
-Star 30M
-Star Firestar.
I'm trying to find a gun for her. A gun so dangerous, even YOU guys wouldn't DARE use such a thing.
-It has to be a pistol, NO Rifles.
-It has to look really cool.
-No cowboy-like guns.
-No old obsolete guns.
After you give me as many guns models as you can. Give me some information on it. Like, it's capacity. How often it was used.
REMEMBER: It has to be good enough for assasination. It doesn't have to be a silencer.
The answerer with the best looking or coolest gun ever will get ten points.

| → | →How often should I clean my 40 cal Glock 22? | | 2007-10-28 10:16:28 | | (I will be shooting it every Saturday, about 200 shots each week, and it is new) | | Answered By: icing_in_ak | |
| | Since its a new pistol, you should clean it before you take it out, and probably after your first two sessions. Then probably let it run a couple hundred rounds between sessions.
This is probably going to get modded down, but someone has to take the other side of the coin.
I don't believe in cleaning my guns every time after I shoot. I'll take 3-5 pistols out, and run over 200 rounds through each pistol. I might even bring out a couple of rifles. I'm not going to clean them after every session. And they work just fine.
Granted, if I shoot 600 rounds in one day, I'll probably clean it. But more because if I can shoot 600 rounds, I've got time...
I do keep track of when the last cleaning was, and if its been awhile, I'll clean before I take it out to the range.
Cleaning it every week isn't going to hurt it. Cleaning it every other week isn't going to hurt it either. A well maintained gun has a better chance of having everything run well when you pull the trigger.
But going 1000 rounds is not going to hurt it either, unless you're using really dirty ammo. Even then you're probably not going to have any real issues.
Yes, its easy to do, and only takes a few minutes. But you're not always going to have the time or the convenience.
I was religious and diligent about cleaning when I started out. But after awhile, it became a waste of time. Frankly, the pistol shoots a little better after a few hundred rounds having gone through it.
I've shot 1500 rounds in 2 days, not a problem. The guns are designed to run.
Clean as frequently as you want / need. Find what works for you. You don't need a fixed / inflexible schedule.
