by Yahoo Answers: | → | →What does being shot feel like? | | 2007-04-14 18:54:24 | | This question is for anyone who has ever actually been shot with a gun. I am a writer and I'm trying to ascertain, for my book, what it feels like to get shot. Not with a military grade weapon, but with a handgun, in the shoulder.
Also, if you know, can a person use their arm and hand for awhile after that? How long do they have to spend in the hospital before they're discharged? Does the bullet always come out the other side or does it get lodged in there and have to be dug out?
The antagonist shoots the protagonist with a Glock 19 9MM.
Thank y'all for the help in advance. :) | | Answered By: Kristy
| | I'm a RN in a Shock Trauma ER. Every GSW is different. What I have heard the most is that it feels like your on fire. The shoulder is tricky because there is a major artery that runs really close so it totally depends on where the bullet hits. Bullets do all sorts of things. They can be lodged and surgery can be done to remove it, they can be lodged and the Doc's might decide that it's not worth the risk of surgery and the patient can live normally with the bullet left inside. A bullet can be shot and have an exit wound right behind that point of impact or the bullet can travel. That is where it can get serious because it can travel absolutely anywhere in the body. A quick e-ray is done to see where the bullet is at to determine if it has hit an organ, there are alot of possibilities. Alot if GSW patients can actually go home within 24 hours depending on the situation. A Glock 9 is one of the more serious causing injuries. I don't know much about guns so I'm not sure why, I just know what I see. It depends on where in the shoulder. If you want more info you can email me at kristykellymail@yahoo.com. Good Luck | |
| → | →Legal to have airsoft gun in car with no red tip? | | 2007-04-18 23:11:33 | | I have an airsoft pistol under my drivers seat in a case. I have removed the red tip, so it looks realistic to a Glock 19. Is this legal to do? It's not like I would ever pull it on a cop. If a cop ever asked if I had a weapon in the car, I would explain it. It is actually broken too, but I just wanted to see what what happen if they ran into it whether I told them it was there or they found it by search.. I'm in Texas as well.
Also, what would happen I wonder if I pulled it on someone who was threatening me and they reported me? | | Answered By: Grimreaper

They may look relatively the same, but there are many differences between models.
| → | →Know anything about gun holsters? | | 2007-12-17 18:12:24 | | Anyone know what are some good/sturdy brands for gun holsters? I am carrying a Glock 19 and have to Level I retention with a thumb break. I don't know much about gun holsters and what brands are cheap vs. dependable?
I did go to the gun shop, but the guy behind the counter was an idiot...he had never worked in law enforcement and was just trying to get me to buy everything to make a sale. | | Answered By: Eric
| | Are you in law enforcement? If you're just getting going, your best bet is to speak with your range staff, or your FTOs.
However... I swear by Safariland, Level II holsters. Model 6285 is my baby. Roll forward hood and retention screw.
If I were smarter, I would use a Level III or IV. The point is, you may need that split second shaved off the draw once in your life as a cop. Of course, consistent training will shave that second off.
The argument for Level II and IV holsters is that over a career you may be a in a few fights that take you to the ground and may give a scumbag the idea/opportunity to draw your gun and kill you. That Level III/IV could slow them down enough for you to maintain your weapon.
The Safariland 6070 looks like it maybe my next holster.
Something else to think about. As a female, I imagine your belt rides a little high on the hips, as most female officers' belts do. A mid ride, or even low ride holster maybe the way to go.
My 6285 is a mid ride. As my arms are pretty long, its a little more comfortable to not have to reach up quite as high for the gun.
Here's the link:

They "Highly recommend" the 6075 for female officers.

| → | →What would be a perfect gun for a 12-year old? A really cool gun.? | | 2008-02-17 08:21:16 | | Don't worry. This twelve year old is fictional. This is for a story. The 12-yr old is an assassin/bounty hunter/vigilante train to stalk criminals and kill them for profit (Jail, never works). She's been train to do this since age four. She was raised in solitude, a bit socially challenged.
Her first firearm was a Glock-19, which she stole from a cop. Which her teacher said was pretty useless, there are lots more powerful guns than that.
I chose the the
-Star 30M
-Star Firestar.
I'm trying to find a gun for her. A gun so dangerous, even YOU guys wouldn't DARE use such a thing.
-It has to be a pistol, NO Rifles.
-It has to look really cool.
-No cowboy-like guns.
-No old obsolete guns.
After you give me as many guns models as you can. Give me some information on it. Like, it's capacity. How often it was used.
REMEMBER: It has to be good enough for assasination. It doesn't have to be a silencer.
The answerer with the best looking or coolest gun ever will get ten points.

| → | →Glock 17 or 19 in 9mm or Glock .45. Is this a good deal? | | 2007-02-01 05:16:58 | | After asking friends and Yahoo answers, I have decided to purchase a Glock. A local gun shop has a special on new Glock 17 full size 9mm or Glock 19 small size 9mm complete with Glock case, 2 mags (17 is 17 shot, 19 is 15 shot), and speedloader. The price is $479. I have to order within 2 weeks. Which gun is better. I assume that the 19 might be slightly better since the 17 is the first model.
Lastly, how much more is a .45 caliber? I prefer a .40S&W or .45 caliber, but may jump on the 9mm if its a good deal.
Lastly, yes I am an experienced shooter and am comfortable with all of these calibers.
I live in North Carolina if that helps with cost comparison. | | Answered By: sub_moa_shooter
| | IMHO I would rent different pistols in different calibers to see what you like best. I preferred the Glock Mod. 23 to my Wife's Glock Mod. 19, but both were great shooters. I just preferred the .40 S&W to the 9mm. | |
