  • →Yo! Glock People.... Just teasing. I wanted to get my sister a gun.?
    2007-03-28 22:27:09
I wanted to get my sister a gun. Being an "old school" guy, I suggested a snubby 38, S&W or Taurus. Well she thought it was too bulky etc, etc. Anyway my next choice was a glock. I need your in puts on the Glock 26, 30, 36 slim. Cost wise I was offered a good price by my supplier. What sayeth you?

Congratulations on looking after your sister. Of course you can buy another person a pistol (provided that person can legally own/possess a gun). That said, if she considers the snubby too bulky, what does she think about the Glock? Some people find that they are too thick. If this is the case then consider the Beretta .32 acp Tomcat. With Silvertips or other quality defensive ammo this is a decent home/personal defense gun. I've heard too many women complain that the Sig .380 and Walter PPK pistols hurt their hand with the jolt when they recoil. Too much 'snap.' Consider instead the heavier, wider-bodied Beretta 84 .380 acp which damps the recoil more effectively than the lighter Sig n Walter .380s. This model Beretta also holds more bullets. With high capacity magazines you have a 13+1 capacity. If your sister finds the Glock acceptable, it is a better choice because of the more potent caliber availability. In fact, as a home/personal defense handgun the Glock is hard to beat. I would go with the Glock Model 19 in .9mm which is compact but manageable and a full-size .9mm. With high cap mags and night sights this is an excellent home/self defense handgun. If she can handle the slim Glock 36 in .45 acp, more power to her. The Glock 26 in .9mm with good defensive or pre-fragmented ammo is also a good choice. This is what I got one of my daughters. First choice: Glock Model 36 in .45 acp (if she can handle it); Second: Glock Model 19 in .9mm (use good defensive/pre-frag ammo. Third: Glock Model 26 in .9mm (again good ammo). Best. H
  • →As a security guard should I carry a S&W Model 10 revolver or a Glock 17 pistol?
    2007-11-10 15:28:36
We have our choice as long as we qualify with the weapon. The Glock can hold more rounds and can be reloaded faster. But the S&W model 10 is an old standby. The S&W model 10 in .38 special seems to be more accurate. Which would you choose? You can only carry one. We do not have the option of carrying a different gun other than these 2 so no answers like "I'd carry a 1911 in .45ACP". Our firm only lets us decide between these 2 firearms.

If you can't hit what you're aiming at with the Glock, then choose the Model 10. If you can buy your own ammunition certainly buy +P. However, be aware that 9mm +P and +P+ 9mm ammunition is more powerful than +P .38 Spec., and if you're like most security guards your back-up will be a long time coming. You'll be better served to practice with the Glock 17 until you are proficient with it. I love my wheel guns, but in a gunfight you'll want that extra 12 rounds in the magazine.
  • →Outdoor protection?
    2008-02-11 01:18:27
i am thinking of purchasing a handgun for animal protection. being outdoors alot i hove found need of one many times. i am thinking of a, m9 beretta, .45 magnum glock, .38 glock, a .357, or .44 magnum. any advice? this is for anything from wolf to grizzly i think you missunderstood those might work for a wolf but the beretta will bounce off a grizzly's head

Yah if it says glock you are going to DIE if you come on to a grizzley. Your best bet is to get a Revolver in 41 or 44 mag or step up to to a 45long colt, or a 460 ruger. You need a big bullet not a fast bullet. A 12 ga with slugs would be even better.
  • →does a 9mm glock have sufficient stopping power?

    or should i get a 38 or 40?
    Answered By: Dystopiat99
Get the 9MM...... Please pay no mind to all these armchair gun experts......... A 9MM is lethal..... You pop somebody with a 9mm and they are dead, dead, dead and thats it.... case closed.. Sure the .45 has a little more knock down power then the 9MM but guess what - he aint any deader!! Some say the .357 has more power --- guess again - the 9mm will make whomever your shooting at just as dead!!!...... Then again if you throw a carpenters hammer full force at someones head - um-huh, there dead too.. I dont know why the 9 gets such a bad rap.... well ok maybe it didnt go thru a home assailants belt buckle that good but a 2nd shot makes them dead....... AND GUESS what? After you buy a 9MM you will find the ammo is cheap cheap cheap in bulk lots!! Yup - dats right - you get lots of practice time in without emptying your wallet out...... I ALWAYS say to people - STOP getting so hung up on the weapon and practice a lot with what you have.... I'm more afraid of an expert marksman pointing a .22 at me than some gang banger with a .50 caliber Desert Eagle.... Buy a quality 9 and dont give it a thought!!
  • →Best caliber for hunting coyotes in MA?
    2007-12-08 15:42:40
I want to hunt coyotes in massachussetts, but like everything else here the laws are vauge and not well thought out. After sunset, we are limited to 22LR or 17 HMR (which I have been told is too small for coyote) or pistols .38 caliber or smaller. I have a 9mm Glock (.355 cal sounds smaller than .38 to me!), which of these would be best? P.S. - also shotguns with size up to FF shot (.23 cal) are also allowed but it is vauge if they are legal after dark. Good call on the rifle cartridge pistols, but unfortunately any pistol sold in MA has to be submitted and approved by the attorney general as "safe". The only maufacturers that have done this are S&W, Para-Ordinance, SIG, ruger, Walther, and a few other odballs but all that are legal for sale in MA are of standard pistol chamberings. And yeah, I hear ya that Glock certainly isn't very accurate. Maybe a 8" barrel .38 +p?

It might be a good idea to get a target pistol for night hunting. Since a target pistol is still a pistol, even if it's firing .223 WSSM from a 14" barrel, you'll be able to continue hunting with a cartridge that will still be as effective. A rimfire is not going to be reasonable for coyote, and a Glock isn't going to have the range or accuracy you'd need to hit reliably. So take a look at the Thompson Center pistols, Weatherby’s Mark V CFP, the Savage Striker, and anything like that that trips your trigger. Then you'd be limited to rifle calibers below .38, of which there are more than enough to kill every single coyote using a different caliber. Sorry to hear about you pistol laws like that. Would it work to get a .38 Super Para 1911 and drop a Mech-Tech carbine upper on it, or would that no longer count as a pistol?
  • →Where can you buy cheap ammo online?
    2007-08-26 19:04:15
I have a Bushmaster AR-15 .223, a Glock .40, and a S&W .38 and I am tired of paying high prices at the store. Is there anywhere online that I can get ammo for cheap? I especially need to find cheaper .223. I am paying $60 for 200 rounds. Any help would be appreciated!
    Answered By: Colter B
Wolf makes .223 real cheap but it is steel. Cheaperthandirt.com has it as well as other types of ammo. Gun shows have it cheap and you don't have to pay shipping, ammo shipping is pricey since it is so heavy. There are trade offs on quality and cost... quality new manufacture American made ammo is pricey, you can get Russian junk made of steel that stinks like burning plastic and leaves a thick black layer of gunk on everything including your clothes. A good compromise is Lake City reloads, they take good brass from military shooting ranges and reload it... it is cheaper than new manufacture but it is also brass and has good components.
