-Aug 28 2003 For the money the Glock 23 is a fine firearm and I always recommend people to buy them. I have had mine now for about 6 months and it hasn't let me down yet. I have had good results on the range as well. Never had my G23 stovepipe or misfire. As far as the .40 S&W cal. Glocks kaBooming, that is just the anti-Glock folks starting rumors. Anytime a Glock has gone kaBoom its generally caused by unseated or defective ammunition. The Glock 23 fits my hand well and has a low bore to axis fitting to the hand. Other than a few pet pevs I have a few with the Glock 23, it is my carry gun on the streets. Details..

-Aug 14 2003 This is my third Glock but my first in the mid-size frame. This model is the finest gun I have ever fired in the Glock line. Fits my hand perfectly and I like the balance better than my full size Glock model 22 .40S&W. This gun is very easy to control and bring back to target. It is by far the most accurate of my Glocks and really packs a punch. I love this gun and it has become my permanent carry gun. Buy it, you won't regret it! Details..

rtrevino-Aug 6 2003 i recommend glocks to anyone who carries on their body. they are not for inexperienced owners though because of the lack of safeties (which is a plus for the experienced carrier). Details..

-Jul 30 2003 I'm a previous 1911 owner and fan. After carrying it for 4 years, I decided to buy another handgun. I live in Guatemala, Central America. I don't intend to scare potential tourists away, but things in 3rd world countries are a bit different than in America. My life literally depends on the reliability and correct function of my concealed self-defense weapon. After reading and a thorough 3 month investigation, I decided to buy the Glock 23. I could not be happier. I've had it now for a little over a year and a half. There are a few things I consider to be able to trust my life to a gun.
#1 RELIABILITY- the G23 and all Glocks for that matter are the most reliable handguns out there. No failures or jams whatsoever. I can truly feel comfortable that if and when I'm in a life or death situation where I'll have to use it, I will get the response I expect from my Glock. Through my experience I've found there's 2 ways a gun jams. On feeding and on ejection. My 1911 sometimes jammed while feeding hollow points, even after polishing the feedramp. The feed angle is pretty big, the Glock's feed angle is almost in a straight line, thus no jams. My 1911 would also jam sometimes while ejecting the casing. The casing would get stuck, not eject properly, and not allow the slide to fully close back up again and load the next round. Glock has an exceptional ejection (you could probably kill the bad guy just as well with the ejected casing the way the Glock shoots it right out).
#2 QUICK DRAW, ADQUISITION, AND SHOOTING- Many guns have a quick draw, and mainly it depends on your method of carrying. Once out, the Glock's advantage is the "safe action". No hammers to cock, no safeties to disengage, etc. Some might think of this as an unsafe thing. They might be right for a person who is buying their first gun. But for people who have dealt with guns and are familiar with them, this is not an issue. That extra second it will take me to disengage my safety could give the bad guy the edge to shoot me first. The Glock is simple: point and pull the trigger. No fuss and no thinking of other things under a high-stress situation. As far as adquisition, the Glock's sights are the best. As I unholster and bring it up, the big white dot sights automatically and naturally line up and I'm on target quick. With my 1911, it took a second for me to line up the sights (much smaller and thinner sights). I also found that my 1911 sights were dot "grooves" rather than Glocks "flush" dots. With my 1911, gunk and lint would clog up the dot "grooves" and cover up the white dots, thus I wouldn't see white dots any more. I'd find myself painting in white dots often. The "flush" dots on the Glock don't allow gunk and lint to cover up the white dots.
#3 DURABILITY- This goes hand in hand with reliability. The Glock is unmistakably tough. This gun will last and last until the end of time. This helps keep it reliable. Virtually no wear and tear. I travel to the coast often, and in Guatemala it's a very hot and humid environment. My 1911 would get that rust dust all over it with the humidity and the salty environment, plus the sweat from my body. Not the Glock. The tenifer treatment they do to it makes it completely corrosion resistant, and very durable. The polymer is obviously also corrosion resistant, and very tough. It's not just some flimsy plastic, like I thought when I first saw a Glock.
So all in all, this is (in my opinion) the best self defense handgun out there. I realize that other guns may be a bit more accurate than the Glock. So if you compete, then get an accurate gun. But for self defense, this is the way to go. Most life or death struggles or confrontations are within a few yards, so you don't need that "competition accuracy" anyway. I generally respect other people's opinions on other guns being better, but they are mostly people who have guns for sport and do not REALLY depend on their guns to survive. Their reasons for rating other guns vary. For self defense, Glock is the way to go. So you cops out there, I would recommend the Glock.
As for .40, it's the new self defense caliber. Velocity and penetration similar to 9mm, and impact and stopping power similar to .45. Plus, you get higher capacity mags. My .40 G23 has 13 rnd mags compared to the 7 rnd mags of my .45 1911. Any Glock will be a good gun, but .40 or .45 is best for self defense, thus the G23. The G23 is the "compact" version of their .40 guns. It is a very concealable and comfortable gun to carry around all day, very light too.
I hope all this helps anyone not sure about what to get.

-May 27 2003 So far it seems to be flawless in about 300 rounds it has had 0 problems. It has a very predictable trigger and is as accurate out of the box my first day from 25 feet I was putting all 10 rounds in the 10 ring. When compared to other guns I have of have had (custom Para-Ordinance P-12, Kimber polymer pro carry, S&W SW40F, H&K USP .45, H&K P7M8, Berretta 92) only the P7M8 seems as like a better gun and it is twice the price. -May 17 2003 Just returned from my second range visit with the new G23. Ammo used was S&B 180gr TMJ and Fiocchi 170gr TMJ. I have put a total of about 280rds thru the Glock now. After the first visit I replaced the stock recoil rod/spring with a Glockmeister Tungsten captured rod and 20lb spring. I don't see any difference in recoil with the new set up but now my ejected brass in not going into the next county.Reliability has been 100%. Accuracy (unscientific) has been very good out to 20 yards. I can roll a beer can with every shot. Past 20 yards it becomes a little different story. Details..

infantry00-May 6 2003 For those struggling through this meeger exhistence, there is proof of God. No, I am not talking of the Bilble, the Torah, or even the Koran. I am speaking of the Glock 23. No matter what your poison, home defense, law enforcement, plinking, or just plain old wow factor, this is the most bang for your buck. I am in the law enforcement field, and this is the most versatile, potent, concealable, carryable, comfortable weapon I have ever had the pleasure of employing. Details..

-May 5 2003 I own three 23Cs. One for me, one for my wife and one for home. Never had a malfunction. New jacketed ammo only. Wife was a revolver fan but easily made the transition to the Glock. I let the local Police Weapons Instructor shoot mine and he was very impressed. Local PD shoots Beretta 94s. Terrific gun and highly recommended from and old 1911 fan.
